Iron cylinder key locks

These exterior door locks operate the same as the X90 brass locks. The box (or case) is smooth iron as the originals were when they were new. Some file, screw, and rivet marks can be seen on the face, as the operating mechanism is attached directly to it, unlike the brass locks.

STANDARD FEATURES: ALL X90 locks are furnished complete with round F32 knobs of the proper size, rosette, 9/32" square spindle, escutcheon with cover, keeper, screws, brass bit key, and keyedalike or keyeddifferently cylinder with keys. All brass is "Golden Glow" polished, all iron is painted flat black. The locking is by a "night latch" (beveled) bolt retracted by the cylinder or bit key.

SPECIALS AVAILABLE: Fittings to mount on metal doors. "Reverse" or "dead" bolts, full size keepers, drops, nonstandard size round F32 or oval F34 knobs, or a slide bolt for locking from the inside only can be fitted if required. We recommend heavy duty bearings for use in public buildings. See the Specials Page.

"CARPENTER" LOCKS: In 1820 J Carpenter patented the operating principle of this type of lock in England, and at that time licensed other firms to produce, what we know today as "Carpenter" locks. Our collection contains examples made by more than 15 English firms. There is evidence that many locks of this type were made prior to 1820, and it seems that ALL of the English production was exported to the U. S. We have reproduced 3 sizes of this lock operated by a bit key for years, we now offer the same lock fitted with a cylinder like our other X90 locks.

"Vertical" locks should be used ONLY when limited space does not permit the use of a "regular" lock.
